9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh declared its independence on March 26, 1971, was recognized by2 |

10 | 10 | | the United States on April 4, 1972, and this year celebrates 51 years of diplomatic relations;3 |

12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, more than 30,000 Bangladeshi Americans reside in the State of Georgia and5 |
---|
13 | 13 | | approximately half a million live and work in the United States; and6 |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, during the past 51 years, the United States and Bangladesh have remained7 |
---|
15 | 15 | | closely engaged on a range of issues, including trade, economy, security, governance8 |
---|
16 | 16 | | development, and many other global issues; and9 |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, the ties between the United States and Bangladesh go beyond the10 |
---|
18 | 18 | | government-to-government level as people-to-people contacts and commercial relationships11 |

19 | 19 | | are increasing over the years, and both countries are willing to see this relationship grow in12 |

23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh and the United States share similar views on many international |

26 | 26 | | terrorism and violent extremism; human rights; the 2030 agenda for sustainable16 |

27 | 27 | | development; climate change; and many more; and17 |

28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh always remembers and recognizes the contributions of the18 |

29 | 29 | | American people and their senators and representatives, particularly Senator Ted Kennedy,19 |
---|
30 | 30 | | who supported Bangladesh during the war of liberation in 1971; and20 |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh has made significant socioeconomic progress in the last 51 years,21 |
---|
32 | 32 | | including increased food production, disaster resilience, poverty alleviation, improved health22 |
---|
33 | 33 | | and education, and women's empowerment; and23 |

34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, for more than a decade, Bangladesh has remained one of the fastest growing24 |

35 | 35 | | economies in the world, and its economic growth is not only benefitting its own people but25 |

36 | 36 | | is also contributing to the peace, progress, and prosperity of the region; and26 |

37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, the United States has been a long-standing partner of Bangladesh in this27 |

38 | 38 | | successful journey of economic and social development and the two-way trade volume28 |

39 | 39 | | between the two countries has recently surpassed $9 billion; and29 |

40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, the United States appreciates the generous role of the Government of30 |

41 | 41 | | Bangladesh in sheltering more than one million Rohingyas; the United States is the largest31 |

42 | 42 | | contributor to the Rohingya crisis response, providing humanitarian support of over32 |
---|

46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh also appreciates the United States for providing 61 million doses |

48 | 48 | | of COVID vaccines to Bangladesh and supporting Bangladesh in the management of the35 |

49 | 49 | | COVID pandemic.36 |

50 | 50 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body37 |

51 | 51 | | recognize and commend the Country of Bangladesh and extend best wishes for continued38 |
---|
52 | 52 | | success.39 |

53 | 53 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed40 |
