77 Recognizing and commending the Country of Bangladesh; and for other purposes.

99 WHEREAS, Bangladesh declared its independence on March 26, 1971, was recognized by2
1010 the United States on April 4, 1972, and this year celebrates 51 years of diplomatic relations;3
1111 and4
1212 WHEREAS, more than 30,000 Bangladeshi Americans reside in the State of Georgia and5
1313 approximately half a million live and work in the United States; and6
1414 WHEREAS, during the past 51 years, the United States and Bangladesh have remained7
1515 closely engaged on a range of issues, including trade, economy, security, governance8
1616 development, and many other global issues; and9
1717 WHEREAS, the ties between the United States and Bangladesh go beyond the10
1818 government-to-government level as people-to-people contacts and commercial relationships11
1919 are increasing over the years, and both countries are willing to see this relationship grow in12
2020 depth and dimension over the next 51 years; and13 23 LC 112 1674

2323 WHEREAS, Bangladesh and the United States share similar views on many international

2525 issues, including maintaining international peace, security, and stability; the fight against15
2626 terrorism and violent extremism; human rights; the 2030 agenda for sustainable16
2727 development; climate change; and many more; and17
2828 WHEREAS, Bangladesh always remembers and recognizes the contributions of the18
2929 American people and their senators and representatives, particularly Senator Ted Kennedy,19
3030 who supported Bangladesh during the war of liberation in 1971; and20
3131 WHEREAS, Bangladesh has made significant socioeconomic progress in the last 51 years,21
3232 including increased food production, disaster resilience, poverty alleviation, improved health22
3333 and education, and women's empowerment; and23
3434 WHEREAS, for more than a decade, Bangladesh has remained one of the fastest growing24
3535 economies in the world, and its economic growth is not only benefitting its own people but25
3636 is also contributing to the peace, progress, and prosperity of the region; and26
3737 WHEREAS, the United States has been a long-standing partner of Bangladesh in this27
3838 successful journey of economic and social development and the two-way trade volume28
3939 between the two countries has recently surpassed $9 billion; and29
4040 WHEREAS, the United States appreciates the generous role of the Government of30
4141 Bangladesh in sheltering more than one million Rohingyas; the United States is the largest31
4242 contributor to the Rohingya crisis response, providing humanitarian support of over32

4646 WHEREAS, Bangladesh also appreciates the United States for providing 61 million doses
4747 34
4848 of COVID vaccines to Bangladesh and supporting Bangladesh in the management of the35
4949 COVID pandemic.36
5050 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body37
5151 recognize and commend the Country of Bangladesh and extend best wishes for continued38
5252 success.39
5353 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed40
5454 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the41
5555 press.42
