24 LC 128 0042 Senate Resolution 449 By: Senator Esteves of the 6th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Atlanta Vibe professional women's indoor volleyball 1 team; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Atlanta Vibe is Atlanta's premier professional women's indoor volleyball3 team and a founding member of the Pro Volleyball Federation; and 4 WHEREAS, volleyball, the number one team sport for girls in the United States, holds a5 world record in attendance, with an impressive 92,003 attendees in Omaha, the venue for6 their first match; and7 WHEREAS, the team's official introduction to the city was held on August 4, 2023, at8 Atlantic Station, where more than 500 attendees, including VIPs, local business leaders,9 and influential civic figures, were a part of the official induction of the Atlanta Vibe into10 the city's thriving sports scene; and11 WHEREAS, the decision to bring professional volleyball to Atlanta was rooted in a desire12 to contribute to the city's monumental professional sports landscape and provide a13 platform for world-class women's indoor volleyball athletes. Colleen Craig, a prominent14 Atlanta businesswoman and the founder and Managing Partner of Rally Sports15 S. R. 449 - 1 - 24 LC 128 0042 Management, emerged as the visionary leader and the franchise's first ever team owner; 16 and17 WHEREAS, Colleen Craig's impressive background, which includes being a dual-sport18 Division 1 athlete, an alumna of Harvard Business School, and a tenured professional in19 healthcare and finance, positioned her to become the first ever female majority owner in20 the Pro Volleyball Federation; and21 WHEREAS, the significance of the team's name, lies in its representation of the city's22 energy, culture, and collective personality. The name was chosen through a city-wide23 naming contest, emphasizing community engagement and building a brand that resonated24 with the team's fan base; and25 WHEREAS, the team's brand identity, including the primary colors of red and ice blue26 and the intricately designed logo, reflects the integration of traditional and contemporary27 elements, symbolizing the synergy between the Vibe and the City of Atlanta; and28 WHEREAS, the franchise is one of the pioneering teams in the inaugural season of the29 Pro Volleyball Federation, having recruited renowned head coach Todd Dagenais, signing30 the Pro Volleyball Federation's first-ever athlete signed to a contract, Leah Edmond, and31 assembling a globally talented roster to underscore the team's commitment to excellence32 in their pursuit to capturing the first Pro Volleyball Federation championship; and33 WHEREAS, the team's participation in the Pro Volleyball Federation aligns with the34 league's mission to elevate the status of professional volleyball in North America,35 offering competitive play, livable wages for players, and top-notch facilities.36 S. R. 449 - 2 - 24 LC 128 0042 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this 37 body recognize and commend the Atlanta Vibe professional women's indoor volleyball38 team for contributing to the city's monumental professional sports landscape and39 providing a platform for world-class women's indoor volleyball athletes.40 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed41 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Atlanta42 Vibe professional women's indoor volleyball team.43 S.
