24 LC 128 0083 Senate Resolution 510 By: Senators Mallow of the 2nd and Sims of the 12th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Melody Michelle Coburn; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Melody Michelle Coburn on January 1, 2024; and3 WHEREAS, Melody Michelle Coburn was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 12,4 1980, to Evondale and Juanita Muñoz Coburn; and5 WHEREAS, the daughter of a veteran, Melody spent most of her formative years in6 Hinesville, Georgia, where she graduated from Bradwell Institute; and7 WHEREAS, she pursued a Bachelor of Science at Savannah State University where she8 majored in Business Administration and was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and9 continued on to receive her master's in Human Resources Management from the University10 of Phoenix; and11 WHEREAS, she worked as a higher education professional for over a decade and was most12 recently employed by Georgia State University; and13 S. R. 510 - 1 - 24 LC 128 0083 WHEREAS, she was an avid fitness enthusiast who in recent years became a fitness coach, 14 a transformative bodybuilding competitor, and known to many, affectionately, as Coach15 Marley Mel; and16 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Melody Coburn was dedicated at Grace17 United Methodist Church in Brooklyn in 1981 and baptized at First Calvary Missionary18 Baptist Church in Hinesville in 2000; and19 WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern20 for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to21 her family and friends were admired by others; and22 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation23 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,24 she made this world a better place in which to live; and25 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Melody Coburn will long be26 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who27 had the great fortune of knowing her.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 join in honoring the life and memory of Melody Michelle Coburn and express their deepest30 and most sincere regret at her passing.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of33 Melody Michelle Coburn.34 S.
