55 Honoring the life and memory of Melody Michelle Coburn; and for other purposes.

77 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
88 with the passing of Melody Michelle Coburn on January 1, 2024; and3
99 WHEREAS, Melody Michelle Coburn was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 12,4
1010 1980, to Evondale and Juanita Muñoz Coburn; and5
1111 WHEREAS, the daughter of a veteran, Melody spent most of her formative years in6
1212 Hinesville, Georgia, where she graduated from Bradwell Institute; and7
1313 WHEREAS, she pursued a Bachelor of Science at Savannah State University where she8
1414 majored in Business Administration and was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and9
1515 continued on to receive her master's in Human Resources Management from the University10
1616 of Phoenix; and11
1717 WHEREAS, she worked as a higher education professional for over a decade and was most12
1818 recently employed by Georgia State University; and13

2121 WHEREAS, she was an avid fitness enthusiast who in recent years became a fitness coach,

2323 a transformative bodybuilding competitor, and known to many, affectionately, as Coach15
2424 Marley Mel; and16
2525 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Melody Coburn was dedicated at Grace17
2626 United Methodist Church in Brooklyn in 1981 and baptized at First Calvary Missionary18
2727 Baptist Church in Hinesville in 2000; and19
2828 WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern20
2929 for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to21
3030 her family and friends were admired by others; and22
3131 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation23
3232 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,24
3333 she made this world a better place in which to live; and25
3434 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Melody Coburn will long be26
3535 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who27
3636 had the great fortune of knowing her.28
3737 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29
3838 join in honoring the life and memory of Melody Michelle Coburn and express their deepest30
3939 and most sincere regret at her passing.31
4040 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32
4141 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of33
4242 Melody Michelle Coburn.34
