24 LC 128 0214 Senate Resolution 618 By: Senator Rhett of the 33rd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Sweetwater Mission; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Sweetwater Mission has been stabilizing families by preventing hunger and2 homelessness while transforming lives through education and employment opportunities3 since 1968; and4 WHEREAS, in 1967, Bill Stejback, a retired Army Ranger and Vietnam War veteran,5 couldn't find a job when he returned to Austell; and6 WHEREAS, inspired by a mission study at the First Baptist Church in Austell, he decided7 to put his free time to good use and volunteered at the local family and children's services8 agency and began delivering surplus food to needy families; and9 WHEREAS, he was astounded by the needs he encountered and the seed for an all-volunteer,10 multicultural, multidenominational, community-based ministry had taken root, the11 Community Action Mission Program or C.A.M.P; and12 WHEREAS, in the year following, C.A.M.P. became Sweetwater Mission and for more than13 50 years has worked through word and deed addressing the physical, psychological,14 S. R. 618 - 1 - 24 LC 128 0214 intellectual, and spiritual needs of others and proving its commitment to bettering the 15 community; and16 WHEREAS, it continues to break records regarding food distribution; and17 WHEREAS, Sweetwater Mission is working on enhancing its Education and Community18 Center to help those in need become self-sufficient using various methods of learning and19 technology to find jobs that are suitable; and20 WHEREAS, this fine organization has compiled an unparalleled record of constructive,21 compassionate, and humanitarian service which it demonstrates daily through open minds,22 open hearts, and open doors; and23 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this24 remarkable and distinguished group be appropriately recognized.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26 recognize and commend Sweetwater Mission for its innumerable good works rendered on27 behalf of persons in need and extend their warmest best wishes for its continued growth and28 success.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Sweetwater31 Mission.32 S.
