7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Sweetwater Mission has been stabilizing families by preventing hunger and2 |

8 | 8 | | homelessness while transforming lives through education and employment opportunities3 |
---|
9 | 9 | | since 1968; and4 |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, in 1967, Bill Stejback, a retired Army Ranger and Vietnam War veteran,5 |
---|
11 | 11 | | couldn't find a job when he returned to Austell; and6 |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, inspired by a mission study at the First Baptist Church in Austell, he decided7 |
---|
13 | 13 | | to put his free time to good use and volunteered at the local family and children's services8 |
---|
14 | 14 | | agency and began delivering surplus food to needy families; and9 |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, he was astounded by the needs he encountered and the seed for an all-volunteer,10 |
---|
16 | 16 | | multicultural, multidenominational, community-based ministry had taken root, the11 |
---|
17 | 17 | | Community Action Mission Program or C.A.M.P; and12 |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, in the year following, C.A.M.P. became Sweetwater Mission and for more than13 |
---|
19 | 19 | | 50 years has worked through word and deed addressing the physical, psychological,14 |
---|

22 | 22 | | intellectual, and spiritual needs of others and proving its commitment to bettering the |

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, it continues to break records regarding food distribution; and17 |

26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Sweetwater Mission is working on enhancing its Education and Community18 |

27 | 27 | | Center to help those in need become self-sufficient using various methods of learning and19 |
---|
28 | 28 | | technology to find jobs that are suitable; and20 |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, this fine organization has compiled an unparalleled record of constructive,21 |
---|
30 | 30 | | compassionate, and humanitarian service which it demonstrates daily through open minds,22 |
---|
31 | 31 | | open hearts, and open doors; and23 |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this24 |
---|
33 | 33 | | remarkable and distinguished group be appropriately recognized.25 |

34 | 34 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26 |

35 | 35 | | recognize and commend Sweetwater Mission for its innumerable good works rendered on27 |

36 | 36 | | behalf of persons in need and extend their warmest best wishes for its continued growth and28 |
---|
37 | 37 | | success.29 |

38 | 38 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 |
