55 Recognizing and commending Sweetwater Mission; and for other purposes.

77 WHEREAS, Sweetwater Mission has been stabilizing families by preventing hunger and2
88 homelessness while transforming lives through education and employment opportunities3
99 since 1968; and4
1010 WHEREAS, in 1967, Bill Stejback, a retired Army Ranger and Vietnam War veteran,5
1111 couldn't find a job when he returned to Austell; and6
1212 WHEREAS, inspired by a mission study at the First Baptist Church in Austell, he decided7
1313 to put his free time to good use and volunteered at the local family and children's services8
1414 agency and began delivering surplus food to needy families; and9
1515 WHEREAS, he was astounded by the needs he encountered and the seed for an all-volunteer,10
1616 multicultural, multidenominational, community-based ministry had taken root, the11
1717 Community Action Mission Program or C.A.M.P; and12
1818 WHEREAS, in the year following, C.A.M.P. became Sweetwater Mission and for more than13
1919 50 years has worked through word and deed addressing the physical, psychological,14

2222 intellectual, and spiritual needs of others and proving its commitment to bettering the

2424 community; and16
2525 WHEREAS, it continues to break records regarding food distribution; and17
2626 WHEREAS, Sweetwater Mission is working on enhancing its Education and Community18
2727 Center to help those in need become self-sufficient using various methods of learning and19
2828 technology to find jobs that are suitable; and20
2929 WHEREAS, this fine organization has compiled an unparalleled record of constructive,21
3030 compassionate, and humanitarian service which it demonstrates daily through open minds,22
3131 open hearts, and open doors; and23
3232 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this24
3333 remarkable and distinguished group be appropriately recognized.25
3434 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26
3535 recognize and commend Sweetwater Mission for its innumerable good works rendered on27
3636 behalf of persons in need and extend their warmest best wishes for its continued growth and28
3737 success.29
3838 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30
3939 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Sweetwater31
4040 Mission.32
