1717 To amend Chapter 1A of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to early

1919 care and learning, so as to revise the requirements of child care learning centers and family2
2020 child care learning homes; to require that such centers and homes maintain at least one3
2121 portable airway clearance device; to require that certain employees of such centers and4
2222 homes be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); to provide for a definition; to5
2323 provide for related matters; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and6
2424 for other purposes.7
2525 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:8
2626 SECTION 1.9
2727 Chapter 1A of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to early care and10
2828 learning, is amended in Code Section 20-1A-2, relating to definitions, by adding a new11
2929 paragraph to read as follows:12
3030 "(10.1) 'Portable airway clearance device' means a portable medical device that uses

3232 manually created suction to remove a blockage from the airway during a choking14
3333 emergency."15

3838 Said chapter is further amended in Code Section 20-1A-10, relating to regulation of early17
3939 care and education programs, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:18
4040 "(g.1) Child care learning centers and family child care learning homes shall:

4242 (1) Maintain on the premises of such center or home at least one portable airway20
4343 clearance device; and21
4444 (2) Ensure that each employee of such center or home who cares for or supervises22
4545 children at such center or home is certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)23
4646 within 45 days of beginning his or her employment with such center or home."24
4747 SECTION 3.25
4848 This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law26
4949 without such approval.27
5050 SECTION 4.28
5151 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.29
