26 | 26 | | relating to student health in elementary and secondary education, is amended by adding a9 |

30 | 30 | | (a) If a local board of education provides information on immunizations, infectious12 |
---|
31 | 31 | | diseases, medications, or other school health issues to parents and guardians of students in13 |
---|
32 | 32 | | grades six through 12, then the following information about sickle cell disease shall be14 |
---|

34 | 34 | | (1) A description of sickle cell disease;16 |

38 | 38 | | (3) A recommendation to the parent or guardian of those students displaying warning18 |

39 | 39 | | signs associated with sickle cell disease that such parent or guardian consult with the19 |
---|
40 | 40 | | student's primary care provider to determine if immediate screening for sickle cell disease20 |
---|
41 | 41 | | is appropriate;21 |
---|
42 | 42 | | (4) A description of the screening processes for sickle cell disease; and22 |
---|
43 | 43 | | (5) A recommendation that, following a sickle cell disease diagnosis, the parent or23 |
---|
44 | 44 | | guardian consult with the student's primary care provider to develop an appropriate24 |
---|
45 | 45 | | treatment plan.25 |

46 | 46 | | (b) The Department of Education, in cooperation with the Department of Public Health,26 |
---|
47 | 47 | | shall develop and make available the information about sickle cell disease to local school27 |
---|
48 | 48 | | systems as required under subsection (a) of this Code section in an efficient manner that28 |
---|
49 | 49 | | shall include posting the information on its public website."29 |
