A RESOLUTION
Commending and congratulating Melvin G. Dye III; and for other purposes.
1
WHEREAS, Melvin G. Dye III has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the most distinguished2
rank conferred by the Boy Scouts of America; and3
WHEREAS, a candidate for the most exceptional award in scouting must complete a4
rigorous program of training and demonstrate his proficiency in selected scouting techniques5
and the attainment of the highest ideals of scouting; and6
WHEREAS, only one scout out of 97 ever reaches this lofty level of achievement, and7
Melvin has ably evidenced his aptitude and competency in mastering the various special8
skills taught through the Scouts BSA program; and9
WHEREAS, this hard-working young man has demonstrated great leadership skills and10
initiative and has truly exhibited a commitment to the scouting principles of honesty and11
fairness during his years with the Scouts BSA program; and12
WHEREAS, a member of Troop 705, Melvin earned the rank of Eagle Scout by13
demonstrating leadership, organization, and hands-on skills in the restoration and repair of14

the fence at the McDaniel Tichenor House in Monroe, Georgia, the historic home of Henry

D. McDaniel, the 52nd Governor of Georgia; and16
WHEREAS, as further testament to his excellent scouting, he has earned 27 Merit Badges17
and a Bronze Palm as well as attended High Adventure Camps at both the Florida National18
High Adventure Sea Base Camp and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico; and19
WHEREAS, the perseverance and determination displayed by this exceptional young leader20
set an example for all Georgians, and great success is surely in this young man's future.21
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that22
the members of this body commend Melvin G. Dye III for his diligence and dedication in23
pursuing the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America and congratulate him on24
attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized26
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to27
Melvin G. Dye III.28
