1313 A RESOLUTION
1414 Recognizing April 8, 2025, as Community Activist Day to acknowledge unsung heroic

1616 activists and their strength, selfless courage, and hopeful actions that create a positive and2
1717 much improved future; and for other purposes.3
1818 WHEREAS, Community Activist Day recognizes individuals with spirit, vision, values,4
1919 leadership, and transformational activism who create a better tomorrow for generations yet5
2020 to be born; and6
2121 WHEREAS, Community Activist Day will focus on "activism" and "activist," which are7
2222 terms that date back to the slave revolts of the first century BC in the Roman Empire as well8
2323 as the civil actions and new social movements of the 1960s in the United States; and9
2424 WHEREAS, activists fight the status quo and challenge injustice to balance the scales of10
2525 justice and have a long history of changing the world through reform; and11
2626 WHEREAS, activists gather people together and build coalitions to tap into the power of12
2727 collaboration and collective strength and demand righteousness and change; collective action13
2828 that is purposeful, organized, and sustained over a period of time becomes known as a social14
2929 movement; and15

3232 WHEREAS, activists are inspirational leaders and role models who possess a mix of

3434 unflagging effort, effective action, and tangible achievement, setting a standard for other17
3535 activists to duplicate within communities; and18
3636 WHEREAS, activists advocate for fairness, transparency, ethics, and accessibility while19
3737 facilitating equity and diversity; they also advocate for all aspects of life such as social20
3838 justice agendas, including, but not limited to, civil rights issues, economic development,21
3939 environmental justice, health policy, education, criminal justice, voting rights, international22
4040 affairs, labor, and youth development.23
4141 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
4242 the members of this body recognize April 8, 2025, as Community Activist Day, a day to25
4343 celebrate activists throughout history.26
4444 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27
4545 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the28
4646 public and the press.29
