| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, congenital heart defects are one of the most frequently occurring birth defects3 |

| 20 | 20 | | and a leading cause of deaths related to birth defects worldwide; and4 |

| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, more than one million families across America face the challenges and5 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | hardships of raising children with congenital heart defects, and each year, approximately6 |

| 23 | 23 | | 40,000 babies are born in the United States with these conditions; and7 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, some congenital heart defects are not diagnosed until months or years after8 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | birth; when these conditions go undiagnosed, they can cause many cases of sudden cardiac9 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | death in young athletes; and10 |

| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, despite these alarming statistics, newborns and young athletes are still not11 |
