A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the Athens Academy boys varsity basketball team for winning the Region
1
8-AA Championship; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the Athens Academy boys varsity basketball team has established and3
maintained a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics;4
and5
WHEREAS, this superlative team has completed another triumphant season of basketball6
competition by posting an outstanding record of 23 wins and only six losses, the second most7
wins in a single season in the school's history; and8
WHEREAS, excellent play, superior teamwork, and extraordinary resilience made this team9
a spectacular one to observe throughout the season, and as a fitting finale to its remarkable10
2023-2024 campaign, the team captured its first region championship since 2000; and11
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding12
athletic ability, dedication, hard work, and unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the13
team; its superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of Coach Don14
Hurlburt, the GHSA Coach of the Year; and15

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
16
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is17
abundantly proper to call them champions.18
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that19
the members of this body congratulate the Athens Academy boys varsity basketball team for20
winning the Region 8-AA Championship and extend best wishes for their continued success.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized22
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the23
Athens Academy boys varsity basketball team.24
