18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, the Flint Circuit Council on Family Violence Inc. was organized as a 501(c)(3)2 |

19 | 19 | | nonprofit in May 1989 with the primary goal of advocating for women through the judicial3 |

20 | 20 | | system at a time when domestic violence was only beginning to be recognized as a societal4 |
---|
21 | 21 | | issue; and5 |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, in 1999, the agency secured a house formerly known as the Hampton Boys6 |
---|
23 | 23 | | Home, and following renovations, Haven House was opened later that year as a shelter for7 |
---|
24 | 24 | | survivors and their children to stay after leaving a violent situation; and8 |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, as the organization expanded its mission, Haven House began offering9 |
---|
26 | 26 | | additional services to survivors, including financial assistance, support groups,10 |
---|
27 | 27 | | transportation, and a food pantry, alongside its core legal advocacy and case management11 |
---|
28 | 28 | | programs; and12 |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, due to the increasing need for shelter and support services, Haven House, with13 |
---|
30 | 30 | | the support of the Henry County Commissioners and dedicated board members, opened a14 |
---|
31 | 31 | | new facility in June 2011 capable of housing 48 adults and children; and15 |

37 | 37 | | adult wing, large community rooms, and office spaces to enhance services; and18 |

38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, in 2024, Haven House provided shelter to 695 survivors, processed 29219 |

39 | 39 | | temporary protective orders, responded to 3,444 crisis calls, and delivered counseling20 |
---|
40 | 40 | | services to 432 individuals; and21 |

41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, February 5, 2025, marks Stand With Survivors Day at the state capitol, a day22 |

42 | 42 | | dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the rights and safety of domestic violence23 |

44 | 44 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable organization be25 |

46 | 46 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 |
