1616 Recognizing and commending Haven House; and for other purposes.

1818 WHEREAS, the Flint Circuit Council on Family Violence Inc. was organized as a 501(c)(3)2
1919 nonprofit in May 1989 with the primary goal of advocating for women through the judicial3
2020 system at a time when domestic violence was only beginning to be recognized as a societal4
2121 issue; and5
2222 WHEREAS, in 1999, the agency secured a house formerly known as the Hampton Boys6
2323 Home, and following renovations, Haven House was opened later that year as a shelter for7
2424 survivors and their children to stay after leaving a violent situation; and8
2525 WHEREAS, as the organization expanded its mission, Haven House began offering9
2626 additional services to survivors, including financial assistance, support groups,10
2727 transportation, and a food pantry, alongside its core legal advocacy and case management11
2828 programs; and12
2929 WHEREAS, due to the increasing need for shelter and support services, Haven House, with13
3030 the support of the Henry County Commissioners and dedicated board members, opened a14
3131 new facility in June 2011 capable of housing 48 adults and children; and15

3434 WHEREAS, Haven House continues to evolve to meet the needs of domestic violence

3636 survivors, offering a safe and supportive environment for all family types with a family wing,17
3737 adult wing, large community rooms, and office spaces to enhance services; and18
3838 WHEREAS, in 2024, Haven House provided shelter to 695 survivors, processed 29219
3939 temporary protective orders, responded to 3,444 crisis calls, and delivered counseling20
4040 services to 432 individuals; and21
4141 WHEREAS, February 5, 2025, marks Stand With Survivors Day at the state capitol, a day22
4242 dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the rights and safety of domestic violence23
4343 survivors; and24
4444 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable organization be25
4545 appropriately honored during this special time.26
4646 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27
4747 the members of this body recognize and commend Haven House for its many outstanding28
4848 contributions on behalf of those in need as well as extend sincere best wishes for continued29
4949 success.30
5050 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31
5151 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to32
5252 Haven House.33
