| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Carleen Cumberbatch has been honored as this year's Distinguished Older3 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Georgian for her more than 30 years of advocacy and volunteer service to the senior citizens4 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of DeKalb County and beyond; and5 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, the Distinguished Older Georgian Award was established in 2003 by the6 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Georgia Council on Aging to recognize individuals over the age of 70 who have served as7 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | positive role models and made significant contributions to society through their occupational8 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | or volunteer efforts; and9 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, since discovering that DeKalb County offered no services to seniors unless they10 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | were homebound or indigent, she has worked to address these gaps through volunteerism,11 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community organizing, and program development; and12 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, she is the founder of the South DeKalb Senior Line Dancers, which she13 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | originally formed to encourage women to exercise together once a week by line dancing as14 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | well as to advocate for DeKalb County seniors; and15 |
|---|

| 30 | 30 | | implemented senior group ministries; and18 |

| 32 | 32 | | coordinator; district coordinator for DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Rockdale counties; women's20 |

| 33 | 33 | | specialist for Georgia; and coordinator for Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT)21 |

| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Carleen Cumberbatch was appointed to the Housing Authority of DeKalb23 |

| 36 | 36 | | County Board of Commissioners in 2003, where she now serves as board chair; and24 |

| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, she has additionally served as a member of the Atlanta Regional Commission25 |

| 38 | 38 | | Advisory Committee on Aging since 2001, commissioner for the NAHRO Board from 201026 |

| 39 | 39 | | to 2021, representative for DeKalb County's District 31 in the Georgia Silver Hair27 |

| 41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstanding individual be29 |
