1515 A RESOLUTION
1616 Recognizing and commending Dr. Mike Looney, Georgia's 2024 Superintendent of the Year;

1818 and for other purposes.2
1919 WHEREAS, Dr. Mike Looney has served as the superintendent of Fulton County Schools,3
2020 Georgia's fourth-largest school district, since June 2019, where he oversees the education of4
2121 more than 87,000 students across 104 schools; and5
2222 WHEREAS, he has spearheaded initiatives that enhance academic achievement, career6
2323 readiness, and leadership development for both students and educators with a strategic focus7
2424 on dropout prevention, literacy, CTAE expansion, STEAM programs, middle school reform,8
2525 and strong financial management; and9
2626 WHEREAS, through his careful fiscal oversight, he has maintained the district's AAA credit10
2727 rating, prioritizing investments in classrooms and student programs; and11
2828 WHEREAS, within his first year as superintendent, Dr. Looney demonstrated decisive12
2929 leadership in managing Georgia's first school-related COVID-19 case, drawing upon his 2813
3030 years of educational experience as well as his background as a retired United States Marine,14
3131 father, and community leader to maintain student learning while ensuring safety; and15

3434 WHEREAS, he then launched the district's "Bridge to Success" plan after the pandemic, a

3636 three-year transformational initiative aimed at addressing learning loss through targeted17
3737 support, leading to students surpassing pre-pandemic levels in reading and math and18
3838 achieving a record-high 90.7 percent graduation rate in 2023; and19
3939 WHEREAS, his exceptional leadership and vision have earned him recognition as Georgia's20
4040 2024 Superintendent of the Year, adding to his prior distinction as Tennessee's21
4141 Superintendent of the Year in 2015; and22
4242 WHEREAS, as further testament to his dedication to Fulton County Schools, Dr. Looney23
4343 represents the district on the Governor's Advisory Board, the Board of Directors for the24
4444 Development Authority of Fulton County, and the Greater North Fulton Chamber of25
4545 Commerce; and26
4646 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable individual be27
4747 appropriately honored.28
4848 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29
4949 the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Mike Looney, Georgia's 202430
5050 Superintendent of the Year, for his years of service on behalf of the students of Fulton31
5151 County as well as extend best wishes for continued success.32
5252 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33
5353 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.34
