77 Recognizing Mr. Johnny Floyd and dedicating an interchange in his honor; and for other

1010 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnny Floyd has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the3
1111 vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare4
1212 of the citizens of Georgia; and5
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Floyd completed Forest Ranger School at the University of Florida, had a6
1414 long career in forestry at the St. Regis Paper Company, and started a family timber business7
1515 in Cordele, Georgia, in 1969 called Floyd Timber Company; and8
1616 WHEREAS, he served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for 19 years,9
1717 representing the citizens of Crisp, Dooly, and Pulaski counties and parts of Houston County;10
1818 served as vice chairman of the House Transportation Committee; and served as a member11
1919 of the House Appropriations, Banks and Banking, and Motor Vehicles committees; and12
2020 WHEREAS, upon completion of his service with the General Assembly, Mr. Floyd dedicated13
2121 15 years to the State Transportation Board representing the constituents of Congressional14

2424 District 2 which is the largest congressional district by land area and includes 29 counties;

2727 WHEREAS, during his tenure with the State Transportation Board, Mr. Floyd has focused17
2828 on economic development for rural Georgians, mobility for commuters in urban areas, and18
2929 the development of freight routes for Georgia's ports and logistics industry; and19
3030 WHEREAS, Mr. Floyd has previously held the roles of chairman, vice chairman, and20
3131 secretary of the State Transportation Board, is currently a member of several board21
3232 committees that help guide the direction of Georgia's transportation network including the22
3333 Statewide Transportation Planning/Strategic Planning, Administrative, and Legislative23
3434 committees, and serves as chairman of the Intermodal committee; and24
3535 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished25
3636 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an interchange in his honor.26
3737 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL27
3838 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that interchange of Interstate 75 and US 280 in Crisp County28
3939 is dedicated as the Honorable Johnny Floyd Interchange.29
4040 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and30
4141 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Honorable Johnny Floyd31
4242 Interchange.32
4343 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33
4444 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Mr.34
4545 Johnny Floyd Interchange and the Department of Transportation.35
