14	14	Recognizing and commending the University of Georgia Block and Bridle Club on the
15	15	1
16	16	occasion of its 50th Great Southland Stampede Rodeo; and for other purposes.2
17	17	WHEREAS, the first Great Southland Stampede Rodeo occurred in 1974 in the Stegeman3
18	18	Coliseum on the campus of the University of Georgia; and4
19	19	WHEREAS, the financial needs of the University of Georgia livestock judging team were5
20	20	far greater than the funds available or historically fund-raised for the student team members;6
21	21	and7
22	22	WHEREAS, members of the livestock judging team put their trucks, washing machines, and8
23	23	personal property up for collateral to fund the first rodeo, which proved to be an immense9
24	24	success and the start of a time-honored campus tradition; and10
25	25	WHEREAS, students involved in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences11
26	26	have since hosted the Great Southland Stampede Rodeo annually with leadership,12
27	27	determination, work ethic, and exceptional character; and13

30	30	WHEREAS, the Great Southland Stampede Rodeo is the largest student-run rodeo in the

32	32	United States; and15
33	33	WHEREAS, the Great Southland Stampede Rodeo has provided thousands of members of16
34	34	the University of Georgia and the Greater Athens community with the opportunity to17
35	35	experience livestock, a rodeo, and an agricultural experience in a family-friendly18
36	36	environment; and19
37	37	WHEREAS, the Great Southland Stampede Rodeo has given back thousands of dollars to20
38	38	worthwhile charities and student organizations and has annually provided local elementary21
39	39	school students with a special rodeo event; and22
40	40	WHEREAS, the Great Southland Stampede Rodeo and its continued success for 50 years23
41	41	represent a tradition of excellence among current and past students involved in the Block and24
42	42	Bridle Club and livestock programs at the University of Georgia; and25
43	43	WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of the26
44	44	remarkable Great Southland Stampede Rodeo be recognized appropriately on its 50th27
45	45	anniversary.28
46	46	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29
47	47	the members of this body recognize and commend the student leaders of the University of30
48	48	Georgia Block and Bridle Club and Great Southland Stampede Rodeo and extend their most31
49	49	sincere best wishes for continued prosperity, leadership, and impact on the University of32
50	50	Georgia, this state, and our nation in the Rodeo's next 50 years.33

53	53	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized

55	55	and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the35
