1616 Recognizing February 26, 2025, as Charter Schools Day at the state capitol; and for other

1818 purposes.2
1919 WHEREAS, Georgia's first charter school law was enacted in 1993, and there are currently3
2020 96 charter schools operating in communities throughout the state; and4
2121 WHEREAS, charter schools are tuition-free, public schools that have fair and open5
2222 enrollment procedures and serve students and families in all 159 counties in Georgia; and6
2323 WHEREAS, a recent national study of charter school performance conducted by the Center7
2424 for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University found that students in charter8
2525 schools outperformed their peers in traditional public schools by an average of 16 additional9
2626 days of learning in reading and six additional days of learning in math; and10
2727 WHEREAS, the members of this body commend the dedicated teachers and leaders serving11
2828 in Georgia's charter schools and celebrate the 65,000 public school students enrolled in12
2929 charter schools throughout the state; and13

3232 WHEREAS, additional charter school seats are needed to serve the 21,000 students who

3434 currently appear on charter school wait lists in Georgia.15
3535 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that16
3636 the members of this body recognize February 26, 2025, as Charter Schools Day at the state17
3737 capitol.18
3838 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized19
3939 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the20
4040 Georgia Charter Schools Association, the public, and the press.21
