1515 A RESOLUTION
1616 Commending Jack and Jill of America, Inc.; and for other purposes.

1818 WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with2
1919 children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening3
2020 children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic4
2121 duty; and5
2222 WHEREAS, the late Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on6
2323 January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when 20 mothers came together to discuss7
2424 creating an organization to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth8
2525 between the ages of two and 19 and in 1946, ten chapters were involved in the national9
2626 restructuring process where a constitution and bylaws were drawn up and the organization10
2727 was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware; and11
2828 WHEREAS, today, this organization has 262 chapters nationwide, representing 50,00012
2929 families in seven regions with each chapter planning annual programming activities guided13
3030 under a national theme, and through service projects, it creates a medium of contact for14
3131 children to stimulate their growth and development; and15

3434 WHEREAS, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Inc., is the philanthropic arm of Jack

3636 and Jill of America, Inc., and since its inception in 1968, the Foundation has distributed17
3737 millions of dollars to communities all across America; and18
3838 WHEREAS, Georgia is part of the Southeastern Region and home to the 28th National19
3939 President Darlene McGhee Wittington and the National Legislative Chair Dorothea "Dee"20
4040 Dawkins-Haigler; the other members of the Regional Executive Board include Regional21
4141 Director Takeysha Lewis, Regional Treasurer Florence Holland, Regional Secretary Adria22
4242 Welcher (Georgia), and Member-at-Large Selika Sampson; and23
4343 WHEREAS, the Georgia chapters and their respective presidents are as follows: Albany –24
