16	16	Commending Jack and Jill of America, Inc.; and for other purposes.

18	18	WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with2
19	19	children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening3
20	20	children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic4
21	21	duty; and5
22	22	WHEREAS, the late Marion Stubbs Thomas founded Jack and Jill of America, Inc., on6
23	23	January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when 20 mothers came together to discuss7
24	24	creating an organization to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth8
25	25	between the ages of two and 19 and in 1946, ten chapters were involved in the national9
26	26	restructuring process where a constitution and bylaws were drawn up and the organization10
27	27	was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware; and11
28	28	WHEREAS, today, this organization has 262 chapters nationwide, representing 50,00012
29	29	families in seven regions with each chapter planning annual programming activities guided13
30	30	under a national theme, and through service projects, it creates a medium of contact for14
31	31	children to stimulate their growth and development; and15

34	34	WHEREAS, the Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Inc., is the philanthropic arm of Jack

36	36	and Jill of America, Inc., and since its inception in 1968, the Foundation has distributed17
37	37	millions of dollars to communities all across America; and18
38	38	WHEREAS, Georgia is part of the Southeastern Region and home to the 28th National19
39	39	President Darlene McGhee Wittington and the National Legislative Chair Dorothea "Dee"20
40	40	Dawkins-Haigler; the other members of the Regional Executive Board include Regional21
41	41	Director Takeysha Lewis, Regional Treasurer Florence Holland, Regional Secretary Adria22
42	42	Welcher (Georgia), and Member-at-Large Selika Sampson; and23
43	43	WHEREAS, the Georgia chapters and their respective presidents are as follows: Albany –24
