99 WHEREAS, the Battle of Brier Creek, fought on March 3, 1779, in Screven County,2
1010 Georgia, was a pivotal conflict in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary3
1111 War, where British forces under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Archibald Campbell4
1212 achieved a decisive victory over American forces led by General John Ashe; and5
1313 WHEREAS, this battle marked a significant moment in the conflict, as the British victory at6
1414 Brier Creek not only allowed them to maintain a foothold in Georgia but also paved the way7
1515 for their subsequent invasion of South Carolina, which was critical to the continuation of8
1616 British efforts to subdue the southern colonies; and9
1717 WHEREAS, the destruction of the bridge over Brier Creek by British forces, combined with10
1818 a surprise flanking maneuver, led to the swift defeat of American troops, resulting in a rout11

3333 WHEREAS, the preservation of the Brier Creek Battlefield will foster a greater appreciation23
3434 for the region's historical importance, contribute to local tourism, and support educational24
3535 initiatives focused on the American Revolution.25
3636 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26
3737 the members of this body join in honoring the history and legacy of those who fought at the27
3838 Battle of Brier Creek, ensuring that their contributions to the struggle for American28
3939 independence are remembered and celebrated.29
4040 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30
4141 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the31
4242 public and the press.32
