1515 A RESOLUTION
1616 Honoring the life and memory of Dorothy Sanders Shaw; and for other purposes.

1818 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
1919 with the passing of Dorothy Sanders Shaw on February 23, 2025; and3
2020 WHEREAS, Dorothy Sanders Shaw was born on August 13, 1934, the beloved daughter of4
2121 Beatrice Bailey and Charles Penn Sanders; and5
2222 WHEREAS, after earning her bachelor's degree in 1956 from the Mississippi State College6
2323 for Women, she began her distinguished career in civil service as a logistics analyst with the7
2424 United States Air Force at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia; and8
2525 WHEREAS, in 1984, she advanced her career with a promotion that led her to9
2626 Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and in 1986, she transitioned to a role as10
2727 a budget analyst at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where she continued her exemplary11
2828 civil service until her retirement at age 56; and12

3131 WHEREAS, after retiring from the Pentagon, Dorothy Sanders Shaw embarked on a second

3333 career in real estate, earning her license and working as a Century 21 realtor for eight years14
3434 before returning to Georgia in 1998 to be closer to her family; and15
3535 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, she was a devoted member of St. Matthew's16
3636 Episcopal Church, where she participated in the Café Theology discussion group and took17
3737 sacraments to homebound members; and18
3838 WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage to her husband, Wayne, and was blessed19
3939 with three remarkable children, Allison, Karen, and Keith; four wonderful grandchildren,20
4040 Lauren, William, Len, and Kate; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Agnes, Edie, and21
4141 Rae; and22
4242 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Dorothy Sanders Shaw will long be23
4343 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who24
4444 had the great fortune of knowing her.25
4545 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26
4646 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dorothy Sanders Shaw and27
4747 express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.28
4848 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29
4949 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30
5050 family of Dorothy Sanders Shaw.31
