25 LC 129 0403 House Resolution 773 By: Representatives Okoye of the 102 nd , Moore of the 91 st , Berry of the 56 th , Adesanya of the 43 rd , and Sanchez of the 42 nd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Mr. Phil Lunney; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Mr. Phil Lunney has demonstrated exceptional dedication, generosity, and2 commitment to service by volunteering countless hours to ensuring a positive first impression3 on Georgia State Capitol visitors, legislators, and staff; and4 WHEREAS, each morning during the session, Mr. Phil Lunney commutes from Roswell,5 Georgia, to stand at the public entrance of the Georgia State Capitol with a smile and warm6 greeting; and7 WHEREAS, after a group of volunteer greeters stopped showing up after the COVID-198 pandemic, Mr. Phil Lunney took up a position on Capitol Square SW to spread warmth and9 positivity; and10 WHEREAS, he has been politically active since 1968, when he campaigned on behalf of11 Eugene McCarthy for president; and 12 WHEREAS, since moving to Georgia in 1986, he has selflessly supported numerous13 campaigns and actively serves with the Fulton Democrats; and14 H. R. 773 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0403 WHEREAS, while he is a passionate Democrat, when he stands on the capitol’s steps, he is 15 a proud Georgian and non-partisan; and16 WHEREAS, Mr. Phil Lunney is united in love and marriage to his wife of 52 years, Lorraine,17 and has three wonderful children; and18 WHEREAS, when the Georgia General Assembly is not in session he spends his time19 traveling with his wife; and20 WHEREAS, his unwavering commitment to his community and deep passion for public21 service have made him a beloved figure among those who work at and visit the Capitol; and22 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding dedication of this23 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25 the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Phil Lunney's spirit for volunteerism,26 express gratitude for his contributions to the capitol community, and extend sincere best27 wishes for his continued health and happiness.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mr.30 Phil Lunney.31 H.
