25 LC 129 0379 House Resolution 806 By: Representative Jackson of the 128 th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Morris Roberts; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, from an early age Morris Roberts has had tremendous musical talent and a2 passion to share his talent with others; and 3 WHEREAS, throughout high school he participated in the Glee Club; was the marching4 band's drum major and student director; played alto sax and was lead singer of the local5 group, The Soul Sensations; and sang in the choir at Tennille Grove Baptist Church in6 Tennille, Georgia; and7 WHEREAS, when Morris served in the United State Marine Corps, in Okinawa, Japan, he8 worked as a guest DJ at radio station KSBK, Naha, Japan, and he found a way to sing by9 sitting in with various Japanese Bands; and10 WHEREAS, singing is his passion; whether with the church choir, the bands of Okinawa,11 local singing groups like Original Southern Travelers in New Jersey gospel group, open mike12 nights, or talent shows, he would always find a place to sing; and13 H. R. 806 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0379 WHEREAS, after his service, Morris started his own agency, MRPP Agency and booked 14 national acts around the country as well as opened the famed Peppermint Entertainment15 Complex in Orange, New Jersey, and started a singing career of his own; and16 WHEREAS, outside of music, Morris continues to uplift the community of Tennille by17 assisting in political campaigns, education and alumni affairs, and feeding the hungry; and18 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this19 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21 the members of this body recognize and commend Morris Roberts for his dedication to both22 the community and the musical and cultural landscape of Georgia.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to25 Morris Roberts.26 H.
