18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Carter Stevens has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for2 |

19 | 19 | | the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the3 |

20 | 20 | | welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and4 |

21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Joyce was raised in Adel, Georgia, and served as Vice-President of Sales and5 |

22 | 22 | | Marketing at Del-Cook Lumber Company from 1964 to 1981; and 6 |

23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, her first major involvement with the Republican Party was in fundraising for7 |

24 | 24 | | Mack Mattingly's 1980 United States Senate race, which led to her organizing the Cook8 |
---|
25 | 25 | | County Republican Party and becoming involved with the highest members of the party; and 9 |

26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, she was selected to serve as Executive Director of the Georgia Republican Party10 |

27 | 27 | | from 1981 to 1983, during which time her main focus was on growing the party's fundraising11 |

29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, she made history as the first female candidate on the general election ballot in13 |
