15 | 15 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:7 |

16 | 16 | | SECTION 1.8 |
---|
17 | 17 | | This Act shall be known and may be cited as "Andee's Law."9 |
---|
18 | 18 | | SECTION 2.10 |
---|
19 | 19 | | Code Section 31-10-14 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to issuance of a11 |

20 | 20 | | new birth certificate following adoption and legitimation or paternity determination, is12 |
---|
21 | 21 | | amended by adding a new subsection to read as follows:13 |
---|
22 | 22 | | "(h)(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code section or any other provision |
---|

24 | 24 | | of law, any person who is 18 years of age or older who was born in this state and for15 |

27 | 27 | | whom a new birth certificate was established pursuant to paragraph (1) of subsection (a)16 |
---|
28 | 28 | | of this Code section may request and receive a copy of his or her original birth certificate17 |
---|
29 | 29 | | by complying with the provisions of this subsection. The state registrar shall require a18 |
---|
30 | 30 | | person seeking an original birth certificate to pay the fee for a birth certificate as19 |
---|
31 | 31 | | prescribed pursuant to Code Section 31-10-27. The copy of the original birth certificate20 |
---|
32 | 32 | | shall be in a form that clearly indicates it is not a certified copy and that it may not be21 |
---|
33 | 33 | | used for legal purposes.22 |
---|
34 | 34 | | (2) If the person who was born in this state and for whom a new birth certificate was23 |
---|
35 | 35 | | established pursuant to paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of this Code section is deceased,24 |
---|
36 | 36 | | any parent, sibling, or descendant of that person may receive a copy of the decedent's25 |
---|
37 | 37 | | original birth certificate pursuant to the procedures contained in this subsection.26 |
---|
38 | 38 | | (3) This subsection shall apply to all applications for original birth certificates for27 |
---|
39 | 39 | | adopted persons presented to the state registrar on or after July 1, 2025."28 |
