| 16 | 16 | | Code Section 20-8-5 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to law enforcement9 |

| 18 | 18 | | and carrying of firearms or weapons, is amended by revising subsections (a) and (c) as11 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | follows:12 |

| 20 | 20 | | "(a) In each public |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | local school system in this state, school security personnel employed13 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | by the local board of education of a county or an independent board of education of a14 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | municipality for the various public schools thereof who are certified pursuant to15 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | subsection (b) of this Code section and who are authorized by the such local board of16 |
|---|

| 27 | 27 | | education of that county or the independent board of education of that municipality shall17 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | have the same law enforcement powers on school property and on public or private18 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | property within five miles of school property, including the power of arrest, as law19 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | enforcement officers of that respective the county or municipality in which the local school20 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | system is located."21 |

| 32 | 32 | | "(c) The provisions of this Code section shall not prohibit a local board of education of a22 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | county or an independent board of education of a municipality from employing school23 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | security personnel without law enforcement powers."24 |
