77 To amend Article 1 of Chapter 2 of Title 35 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated,

99 relating to general provisions relative to the department of public safety, so as to provide for2
1010 the establishment of a program to educate the public on safe storage of firearms, contingent3
1111 upon funding; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other4
1212 purposes.5
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6
1414 SECTION 1.7
1515 Article 1 of Chapter 2 of Title 35 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to8
1616 general provisions relative to the department of public safety, is amended by adding a new9
1717 Code section to read as follows:10
1818 "35-2-17.

2020 Subject to appropriations by the General Assembly or receipt of other funding for such12
2121 purpose, the department shall establish a program to educate the public on the safe storage13
2222 of firearms and to promote such safe storage. Such program may include information14
2323 including, but not limited to, any laws relating to storing a firearm and preventing persons15
2424 under 18 years of age from accessing a firearm. The department shall be authorized to16

2727 coordinate with the Department of Education in the development of materials providing17
2828 information on best practices for firearm storage for distribution of such materials in18
2929 schools. The department shall be authorized to accept federal funds granted by Congress19
3030 or executive order for the purposes of this Code section; provided, however, that any20
3131 acceptance and use of federal funds shall not commit state funds and shall not place an21
3232 obligation upon the General Assembly to continue the purposes for which the federal funds22
3333 are made available."23

3535 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.25
