66 Recognizing and commending Georgia's Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists; and for

99 WHEREAS, as early as 1916, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) were3
1010 providing anesthesia at Grady Hospital in Atlanta; and4
1111 WHEREAS, in 1938, 17 CRNAs established the Georgia Association of Nurse Anesthetists,5
1212 which has grown to represent more than 1,600 members and is among the oldest and largest6
1313 CRNA state organizations in the United States; and7
1414 WHEREAS, CRNAs in Georgia practice in every setting where anesthesia services are8
1515 needed, such as hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, endoscopy suites, the offices of9
1616 doctors and dentists, and the VA Healthcare System; and10
1717 WHEREAS, CRNAs in Georgia are committed to caring for Georgia citizens by providing11
1818 vigilant, high-quality, cost-effective anesthesia services; and12
1919 WHEREAS, CRNAs provide many levels of anesthesia and perioperative care, including13
2020 sedation, IV sedation, general anesthesia, and pain management; and14

2323 WHEREAS, CRNAs are anesthesia professionals who safely administer more than 50
2424 15
2525 million anesthetics to patients each year in the United States, and as advanced practice16
2626 registered nurses, CRNAs are among the nation's most trusted professions; and17
2727 WHEREAS, CRNAs represent more than 80 percent of the anesthesia providers in rural18
2828 counties, and many rural hospitals often rely on independently practicing CRNAs for19
2929 anesthesia care; and20
3030 WHEREAS, half of all rural hospitals in the United States use a CRNA-only model for21
3131 obstetric care, and CRNAs safely deliver pain management care, particularly where there are22
3232 no physician providers available, saving patients long drives of 75 miles or more; and23
3333 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that these outstanding medical professionals24
3434 be appropriately honored.25
3535 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26
3636 recognize and commend Georgia's Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists for their27
3737 dedication to the health and well-being of the citizens of this state and extend best wishes for28
3838 continued success.29
3939 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30
4040 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the31
4141 press.32
