| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is a comprehensive body of research,2 |

| 9 | 9 | | knowledge, and skills that helps people make informed decisions about their well-being,3 |

| 10 | 10 | | relationships, and quality of life; and4 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, with a unique focus on families, work, and their inter-relationships, FCS5 |

| 12 | 12 | | professionals have long worked to empower individuals and families in Georgia to better6 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society; and7 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, national, state, and local policy makers; education administrators; and the public8 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | need an understanding of FCS and its direct relevance to the serious societal concerns of9 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | today, such as obesity; food safety; financial literacy; the complexities of family life; and the10 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | role of parents, caregivers, and other adults in preparing children for school readiness; and11 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, FCS professionals continue to provide relevant and useful resources to help12 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | students prepare for careers in teaching, extension, human services, and a variety of other13 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fields; and14 |

| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and other17 |

| 27 | 27 | | entities within Family and Consumer Sciences support the development and implementation18 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of initiatives designed to promote uniform name recognition and foster a greater19 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | understanding of the important role that the organization plays in preparing families to20 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | successfully manage the many and varied challenges of everyday life.21 |

| 31 | 31 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body22 |

| 32 | 32 | | recognize and commend the affiliates, communities, and entities within Family and23 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Consumer Sciences and support the development and implementation of national, state, and24 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | local intervention strategies to sustain Family and Consumer Sciences in the current25 |

| 35 | 35 | | economic and education environment.26 |

| 36 | 36 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 |

| 37 | 37 | | to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Family and28 |
