66 Expressing strong disagreement over the imposition of tariffs on Mexico and Canada by the

88 President of the United States and urging a focus on policies that benefit Georgia's2
99 hardworking families and small businesses; and for other purposes.3
1010 WHEREAS, the United States has long enjoyed strong trade relationships with Mexico and4
1111 Canada, which are essential partners under the North American trade framework; and5
1212 WHEREAS, Georgia has an economy built on agriculture, manufacturing, and small6
1313 businesses that depend on access to international markets and reasonably priced imported7
1414 goods; and8
1515 WHEREAS, the recent threat of tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada threatens to9
1616 increase costs for Georgia consumers and small business owners alike, creating a heavy10
1717 burden on hardworking everyday Georgians who already face rising living expenses; and11
1818 WHEREAS, these tariffs will likely disrupt supply chains, lead to retaliatory trade measures,12
1919 and negatively impact critical sectors of Georgia's economy, including the agricultural13
2020 industry, which relies heavily on export markets; and14

2323 WHEREAS, Georgia's small business owners, who form the backbone of the state's

2525 economy, will be forced to absorb or pass on increased costs to consumers, thereby limiting16
2626 their ability to grow, hire, and contribute to the economic well-being of their communities;17

2828 WHEREAS, imposing these tariffs detracts from addressing critical issues that would19
2929 improve the quality of life for Georgians, such as strengthening education, improving20
3030 infrastructure, and expanding access to healthcare.21
3131 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body22
3232 express their strong disagreement with the broad imposition of tariffs on Mexico and Canada23
3333 by the President of the United States in recognition of their harmful effects on Georgia's24
3434 families, small businesses, and economy.25
3535 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body urge the federal government26
3636 to prioritize policies that promote free and fair trade, reduce financial burdens on citizens,27
3737 and foster a stable environment that supports Georgia's growth and prosperity.28
3838 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body stand in support of Georgia's29
3939 hardworking families, entrepreneurs, and farmers, all of whom are essential to the state's30
4040 economic success and deserve federal policies that help rather than hinder their ability to31
4141 thrive.32
4242 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33
4343 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the President of the34
4444 United States, the United States Trade Representative, and members of Georgia's35
4545 Congressional Delegation.36
