55 Recognizing and commending Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalition; and for other purposes.

77 WHEREAS, founded in 1998, Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalition (GAIC) is a2
88 non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) community service organization that represents over 153
99 denominations and religious systems; and4
1010 WHEREAS, GAIC provides essential community services such as feeding the poor,5
1111 educating voters, encouraging civic participation, and organizing groups and committees to6
1212 address community needs; and7
1313 WHEREAS, in 2020, GAIC expanded its reach to more than 17 counties in Georgia as well8
1414 as to South Carolina to further support and advocate for civic engagement, environmental9
1515 justice, economic empowerment, healthcare, equal justice, youth development, senior and10
1616 disabled assistance, and social activism; and11
1717 WHEREAS, GAIC has recently focused its efforts on childhood literacy and voting rights,12
1818 collaborating with organizations such as the Area Agency on Aging, Georgia Legal Counsel,13
1919 National Get-Out-To-Vote, East Central Regional Hospital, and the Georgia Family Council14
2020 to advance its mission; and15

2323 WHEREAS, following Hurricane Helene in 2024, GAIC served as the Hurricane Helene

2525 Relief and Resource Center, providing food, supplies, housing, grief counseling, childcare,17
2626 elder care, and assistance with debris clearing despite a two-week power outage; and18
2727 WHEREAS, GAIC's robust voter engagement initiatives include a Voters' Protection19
2828 Hotline, educational forums, programs targeting young and minority voters, senior voter20
2929 education, and election protection efforts; and21
3030 WHEREAS, GAIC actively promotes community engagement through innovative programs22
3131 such as the County Community Development Services Initiative and the Clean Air and23
3232 Environmentally Responsive Young Voters Initiative; and24
3333 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions of this25
3434 extraordinary organization be appropriately recognized. 26
3535 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
3636 recognize and commend Greater Augusta's Interfaith Coalition for its decades of service on28
3737 behalf of the citizens of this state as well as extend best wishes for its continued growth and29
3838 success.30
3939 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31
4040 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Greater Augusta's32
4141 Interfaith Coalition. 33
