| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which ensures equality under the law and3 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ends discrimination on account of sex, has been ratified by the necessary states and4 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | confirmed as part of the United States Constitution; and5 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, both houses of the 92nd Congress of the United States of America, by a6 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | constitutional majority of two-thirds, adopted the following resolution proposing to amend7 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the United States Constitution:8 |

| 17 | 17 | | EACH HOUSE CONCURRING THEREIN), T hat the following article is proposed as11 |

| 18 | 18 | | an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents12 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths13 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission by the Congress:14 |

| 24 | 24 | | Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United |

| 27 | 27 | | Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the18 |

| 29 | 29 | | Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification; and20 |

| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, on January 17, 2025, President Joe Biden declared that the Equal Rights21 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Amendment is officially the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution; and22 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, the ratification of the ERA is a long-awaited and monumental victory in the23 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | advancement of equal rights for American women, marking the fulfillment of a promise to24 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | secure equal rights for all women under the law; and25 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, this achievement reflects decades of tireless advocacy and activism by26 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | individuals and organizations, who have fought relentlessly for the passage of the ERA; and27 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, the ERA guarantees that no individual shall be denied or abridged of their rights28 |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | based on sex, strengthening the protections of liberty and justice for all enshrined in our29 |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Constitution; and30 |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, the passage of the ERA is an affirmation of the United States' commitment to31 |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | human rights, equality, and the pursuit of justice for all; and32 |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, the ratification of the ERA strengthens our nation's commitment to eliminate33 |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | the unjust discrimination against women in all areas of life, including but not limited to34 |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | employment, education, healthcare, and in the home; and35 |

| 47 | 47 | | WHEREAS, the United States joins the leading countries of the world in codifying equal |
|---|

| 50 | 50 | | WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Georgia acknowledges the ratification of the Equal38 |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | Rights Amendment and its confirmation as part of the Constitution of the United States,39 |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | celebrates the achievement of this milestone, recognizes the ongoing work of those who40 |
|---|
| 53 | 53 | | advocated for equal rights for all Americans, and commits to continuing efforts to support41 |
|---|
| 54 | 54 | | and implement the values of fairness, equality, and justice for all under the law; and42 |
|---|
| 55 | 55 | | WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Georgia finds that the proposed amendment is43 |
|---|
| 56 | 56 | | meaningful as part of the Constitution of the United States and that the present political,44 |
|---|
| 57 | 57 | | social, and economic conditions demonstrate that constitutional equality for women and men45 |
|---|
| 58 | 58 | | continues to be a timely issue in the United States.46 |
|---|
| 59 | 59 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF47 |
|---|
| 60 | 60 | | GEORGIA that the said Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby48 |

| 62 | 62 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded by the50 |

| 63 | 63 | | Governor to the President of the United States, the Secretary of State of the United States,51 |

| 64 | 64 | | and the Archivist of the United States at the National Archives and Records Administration,52 |
|---|
| 65 | 65 | | pursuant to 1 U.S.C. Code Section 106b and 112, which shall serve as official notice that the53 |
