66 To commemorate the Equal Rights Amendment as the law of the land; to ratify a proposed

88 Amendment to the United States Constitution; and for other purposes.2
99 WHEREAS, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which ensures equality under the law and3
1010 ends discrimination on account of sex, has been ratified by the necessary states and4
1111 confirmed as part of the United States Constitution; and5
1212 WHEREAS, both houses of the 92nd Congress of the United States of America, by a6
1313 constitutional majority of two-thirds, adopted the following resolution proposing to amend7
1414 the United States Constitution:8
1515 RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE9
1616 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED (TWO-THIRDS OF10
1717 EACH HOUSE CONCURRING THEREIN), T hat the following article is proposed as11
1818 an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents12
1919 and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths13
2020 of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission by the Congress:14

2424 Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United
2525 16
2626 States or by any State on account of sex.17
2727 Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the18
2828 provisions of this article.19
2929 Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification; and20
3030 WHEREAS, on January 17, 2025, President Joe Biden declared that the Equal Rights21
3131 Amendment is officially the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution; and22
3232 WHEREAS, the ratification of the ERA is a long-awaited and monumental victory in the23
3333 advancement of equal rights for American women, marking the fulfillment of a promise to24
3434 secure equal rights for all women under the law; and25
3535 WHEREAS, this achievement reflects decades of tireless advocacy and activism by26
3636 individuals and organizations, who have fought relentlessly for the passage of the ERA; and27
3737 WHEREAS, the ERA guarantees that no individual shall be denied or abridged of their rights28
3838 based on sex, strengthening the protections of liberty and justice for all enshrined in our29
3939 Constitution; and30
4040 WHEREAS, the passage of the ERA is an affirmation of the United States' commitment to31
4141 human rights, equality, and the pursuit of justice for all; and32
4242 WHEREAS, the ratification of the ERA strengthens our nation's commitment to eliminate33
4343 the unjust discrimination against women in all areas of life, including but not limited to34
4444 employment, education, healthcare, and in the home; and35

4747 WHEREAS, the United States joins the leading countries of the world in codifying equal

4949 rights for all women; and37
5050 WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Georgia acknowledges the ratification of the Equal38
5151 Rights Amendment and its confirmation as part of the Constitution of the United States,39
5252 celebrates the achievement of this milestone, recognizes the ongoing work of those who40
5353 advocated for equal rights for all Americans, and commits to continuing efforts to support41
5454 and implement the values of fairness, equality, and justice for all under the law; and42
5555 WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Georgia finds that the proposed amendment is43
5656 meaningful as part of the Constitution of the United States and that the present political,44
5757 social, and economic conditions demonstrate that constitutional equality for women and men45
5858 continues to be a timely issue in the United States.46
5959 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF47
6060 GEORGIA that the said Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby48
6161 ratified and adopted.49
6262 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded by the50
6363 Governor to the President of the United States, the Secretary of State of the United States,51
6464 and the Archivist of the United States at the National Archives and Records Administration,52
6565 pursuant to 1 U.S.C. Code Section 106b and 112, which shall serve as official notice that the53
6666 proposed amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America is hereby ratified54
6767 by the Georgia General Assembly.55
