99 WHEREAS, community midwives have long been recognized by their peers and the citizens3
1010 of this state for their major accomplishments and essential role as agents of public safety for4
1111 maternal and child health services; and5
1212 WHEREAS, the community midwife model serves as an example for maternal and child6
1313 health professionals in Georgia and across the nation; and7
1414 WHEREAS, these midwives have demonstrated best practices through countless hours8
1515 dedicated to their communities, providing accessibility, training, and service while9
1616 representing the diversity of midwifery in scope, skill level, culture, languages spoken,10
1717 religion, gender, and geography as well as creating educational programs, services, and11
1818 models of care that improve outcomes and reduce the risks of premature birth and infant and12
1919 maternal morbidity and mortality; and13
2020 WHEREAS, Certified Community Midwives are pillars of their communities, providing14
2121 alliance, access, and action; earning their titles and recognition through their outstanding15

2424 work in community midwifery; and receiving honorary certification by endorsement for their

2626 years of dedicated service and unyielding compassion for humanity; and17
2727 WHEREAS, the hallmarks of community midwifery emphasize community-based18
2828 interpersonal relationships, health promotion with preventive care, health education,19
2929 continuity of care, early recognition of abnormalities, and skillful communication with20
3030 collaborative health care teams, including physicians, mid-level providers, and specialists;21
3131 and22
3232 WHEREAS, this nation has a centuries-old history of midwives providing conscientious care23
3333 to women in their communities, with evidence of better outcomes than physicians and24
3434 hospital providers for low-risk women; and25
3535 WHEREAS, throughout history, revered community-chosen midwives around the world26
3636 have provided essential care and support; and27
3737 WHEREAS, these midwives are known for their outstanding work in demonstrating how to28
3838 keep low-risk mothers and babies safe during the childbearing year.29
3939 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30
4040 commend Tomasina Oliver, UmmSalamaah Abdullah-Zaimah, Corrinna Edwards, Tomecas31
4141 Gibson, Nar Sandars, Chasity Millen, Jasmine Bradfield, Hadassah Bellot, Naticia Taylor,32
4242 Teri Boles, Morgan Vanbuul, Ayanna Garrick, Bethany Erby, Marsha Ford, Melissa Phillipe,33
4343 Erica Glass, Sarah Butler, Samantha Smith, Nicole Gaynor, Tahaira James, and the Doula34
4444 of the Divine midwife students for their unselfish dedication to childbearing people and their35

4949 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
