25 LC 112 2963 Senate Resolution 222 By: Senators Hickman of the 4th, Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Rhett of the 33rd, Harbin of the 16th and Setzler of the 37th A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending Marietta City Schools, recipient of the Georgia Reads 1 Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critical role in addressing low4 literacy rates; and5 WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to recognize6 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and measurable results in literacy8 improvement; and9 WHEREAS, Marietta City Schools is a recipient of the Georgia Reads Community Award10 for its city-wide collaboration Literacy & Justice For All, which began in Marietta to support11 language and literacy from the third trimester of pregnancy through age five, with the goal12 of building the deep reading brain of every child; and13 WHEREAS, its meaningful partnerships include Marietta City Schools, United Way of14 Greater Atlanta, Rollins Center for Language and Literacy, Cobb Collaborative, and15 S. R. 222 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2963 Wellstar, demonstrating a strong commitment to literacy development through early 16 childhood education and community collaboration; and17 WHEREAS, Marietta City Schools has diligently developed and implemented innovative18 programs that have significantly increased literacy rates within its communities; and19 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,20 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and21 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of Marietta City Schools and its partners serve as22 an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of community-driven solutions to address23 literacy challenges.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award recipients, particularly26 Marietta City Schools, for their exemplary service and unwavering commitment to improving27 literacy in their communities.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Marietta City30 Schools.31 S.
