| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3 |

| 9 | 9 | | through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critical role in addressing low4 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | literacy rates; and5 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to recognize6 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and measurable results in literacy8 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | improvement; and9 |

| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, the Lamar County School System, utilizing the L4GA process, has strengthened10 |

| 16 | 16 | | partnerships with local literacy organizations to boost community literacy engagement; and11 |

| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, these meaningful partnerships include the City of Barnesville,12 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Barnesville-Lamar County Library, Milner Library, Ferst Readers of Lamar County, E.P.13 |

| 19 | 19 | | Roberts Community Center, local daycare centers, and the Lamar County Health14 |
|---|

| 28 | 28 | | ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and20 |

| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of the Lamar County School System and its21 |

| 30 | 30 | | partners serve as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of community-driven22 |

| 32 | 32 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 |
