66 Recognizing and commending MEAG Power on its 50th anniversary; and for other purposes.

88 WHEREAS, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG Power) was established2
99 in 1975 as a nonprofit public corporation and instrumentality of the State of Georgia to3
1010 generate and transmit reliable, affordable wholesale electricity to the electric cities across the4
1111 state; and5
1212 WHEREAS, for 50 years, MEAG Power has remained steadfast in its mission to serve the6
1313 electric power needs of its 49 participating communities, fostering economic growth, energy7
1414 security, and an enhanced quality of life for millions of Georgians; and8
1515 WHEREAS, MEAG Power has been governed by a Board composed of residents from its9
1616 Participant communities, elected to provide leadership, vision, and strategic oversight to the10
1717 organization, ensuring a well-managed, accountable, and forward-thinking wholesale power11
1818 provider; and12
1919 WHEREAS, MEAG Power has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the delivery of13
2020 reliable and affordable power, providing transmission services and a diverse delivered energy14

2323 portfolio that includes nuclear, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric, and future renewable energy

2525 sources to ensure a balanced and resilient energy future; and16
2626 WHEREAS, MEAG Power is a recognized industry leader in providing non-emitting power,17
2727 with over 65 percent of its delivered energy being supplied from non-emitting generation18
2828 sources since 2016; and19
2929 WHEREAS, as a 22.7 percent owner and key partner in the development of Plant Vogtle20
3030 Units 3 and 4, MEAG Power has contributed significantly to the expansion of clean,21
3131 carbon-free nuclear energy, reinforcing Georgia's position as a leader in the energy sector;22

3333 WHEREAS, MEAG Power has consistently prioritized environmental stewardship and24
3434 public service, providing its Participant communities not only electricity but also essential25
3535 resources for economic development, infrastructure enhancement, job creation, and26
3636 sustainability initiatives; and27
3737 WHEREAS, through five decades of unwavering commitment, MEAG Power has earned a28
3838 reputation for excellence in governance, operational efficiency, and fiscal responsibility,29
3939 ensuring benefits for past, current, and future generations; and30
4040 WHEREAS, the continued success of MEAG Power is a testament to the dedication of its31
4141 leadership, employees, and Participant communities, whose collective efforts have made32
4242 public power a vital asset to the State of Georgia.33

4545 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body

4747 recognize and commend MEAG Power upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary, celebrating35
4848 its enduring contributions to the communities it serves and the State of Georgia as a whole.36
4949 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed37
5050 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to MEAG Power.38
