66 Recognizing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, commencing a month of fasting and

88 spiritual renewal, and extending best wishes to all in Georgia and around the world for a2
99 joyous and meaningful observance of Eid al-Fitr; and for other purposes.3
1010 WHEREAS, Ramadan is the holy month when Muslims worldwide fast not only to renew4
1111 themselves spiritually but also to recognize their responsibility and obligations to the society5
1212 at large as well as to take care of the needy and underprivileged regardless of their religious6
1313 or racial background; and7
1414 WHEREAS, Muslims in Georgia and around the world observe Ramadan by fasting,8
1515 emphasizing self-discipline, worshipping, helping humanity and all living beings, and9
1616 reading the Holy Quran to improve patience, humility, and spirituality; and10
1717 WHEREAS, Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, a significant holy month11
1818 in the Islamic faith, and a month of sacrifice; contemplation of Ramadan begins on the12
1919 evening of February 28, 2025, based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon; and13
2020 WHEREAS, Ramadan will continue until March, when it ends with the sighting of the new14
2121 moon and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, signifying an end to the month of fasting; and15

2424 WHEREAS, it is estimated that there are approximately 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide; and

2626 WHEREAS, it is estimated that there are 3.5 million American Muslims and over 100,00017
2727 Georgian Muslims; and18
2828 WHEREAS, the Muslim population has been growing in Georgia, and today's Georgian19
2929 Muslim population is a tapestry of ethnic, racial, linguistic, social, and economic groups; and20
3030 WHEREAS, Georgian Muslims have contributed to every part of society to make21
3131 advancements in medicine, science, engineering, economics, sports, education, military, and22
3232 the law.23
3333 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body,24
3434 in support of Muslims throughout Georgia and the United States, recognize the Islamic holy25
3535 month of Ramadan and extend best wishes to all in Georgia and across the world for a joyous26
3636 and meaningful observance of Eid al-Fitr.27
3737 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28
3838 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the29
3939 press.30
