88 WHEREAS, founded in 1836 as Emory College, Oxford College has a long and2
99 distinguished history that reflects its deep connection to the Methodist Church and its integral3
1010 role within the broader Emory University community; and4
1111 WHEREAS, the college transitioned to its current designation as Oxford College in 1964,5
1212 becoming a two-year liberal arts institution dedicated to providing a rigorous academic6
1313 foundation for its students; and7
1414 WHEREAS, located in Oxford, Georgia, Oxford College offers students a unique educational8
1515 experience that combines the benefits of a close-knit campus environment with the vast9
1616 resources of a world-renowned research university; and10
1717 WHEREAS, Oxford College plays a vital role in the Newton County economy, contributing11
1818 more than $80 million annually, attracting over 12,000 visitors, and supporting over 52012
1919 local jobs and 1,500 jobs statewide; and13

2222 WHEREAS, students at Oxford College are deeply engaged in community service,

2424 partnering with more than 65 local organizations, nonprofits, civic groups, and educational15
2525 institutions to contribute over 13,000 volunteer hours each year; and16
2626 WHEREAS, Oxford College has remained steadfast in its commitment to academic17
2727 excellence, fostering an environment where students benefit from close faculty interactions,18
2828 personalized learning experiences, and a strong sense of community; and19
2929 WHEREAS, the college has upheld a tradition of intellectual growth, resilience, and service,20
3030 shaping students who not only excel academically but also develop socially and personally21
3131 through meaningful engagement with their peers and the wider world; and22
3232 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished academic institution23
3333 be appropriately honored during this special time.24
3434 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25
3535 recognize March 4, 2025, as Oxford Day at the state capitol and commend Oxford College26
3636 for its rich history, academic excellence, and ongoing contributions to Newton County, the27
3737 State of Georgia, and beyond.28
3838 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29
3939 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Oxford College.30
