| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, founded in 1836 as Emory College, Oxford College has a long and2 |

| 9 | 9 | | distinguished history that reflects its deep connection to the Methodist Church and its integral3 |

| 10 | 10 | | role within the broader Emory University community; and4 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, the college transitioned to its current designation as Oxford College in 1964,5 |

| 12 | 12 | | becoming a two-year liberal arts institution dedicated to providing a rigorous academic6 |

| 13 | 13 | | foundation for its students; and7 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, located in Oxford, Georgia, Oxford College offers students a unique educational8 |

| 15 | 15 | | experience that combines the benefits of a close-knit campus environment with the vast9 |

| 16 | 16 | | resources of a world-renowned research university; and10 |

| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Oxford College plays a vital role in the Newton County economy, contributing11 |

| 18 | 18 | | more than $80 million annually, attracting over 12,000 visitors, and supporting over 52012 |

| 19 | 19 | | local jobs and 1,500 jobs statewide; and13 |

| 25 | 25 | | institutions to contribute over 13,000 volunteer hours each year; and16 |

| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Oxford College has remained steadfast in its commitment to academic17 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | excellence, fostering an environment where students benefit from close faculty interactions,18 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | personalized learning experiences, and a strong sense of community; and19 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, the college has upheld a tradition of intellectual growth, resilience, and service,20 |

| 30 | 30 | | shaping students who not only excel academically but also develop socially and personally21 |

| 31 | 31 | | through meaningful engagement with their peers and the wider world; and22 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished academic institution23 |

| 34 | 34 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 |

| 35 | 35 | | recognize March 4, 2025, as Oxford Day at the state capitol and commend Oxford College26 |

| 36 | 36 | | for its rich history, academic excellence, and ongoing contributions to Newton County, the27 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | State of Georgia, and beyond.28 |

| 38 | 38 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29 |
