| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put3 |

| 9 | 9 | | their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the4 |

| 10 | 10 | | freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and5 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., was a standout football player for Lanier6 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | High School, where he led the Poets to a state championship; and7 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, he went on to study aeronautical engineering at Auburn University, where he8 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | played basketball and football; and9 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Trooper Black served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the10 |

| 16 | 16 | | United States Army Reserves and graduated among the first class of troopers in Georgia,11 |

| 17 | 17 | | with a badge number of 8; and12 |

| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, while patrolling on Georgia Highway 41 near Ringgold, Georgia, Trooper |

| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Trooper Black embodied the spirit of service and willingness to find meaning16 |

| 25 | 25 | | in something greater than himself, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable17 |

| 26 | 26 | | and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his18 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | memory.19 |

| 28 | 28 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL20 |

| 29 | 29 | | ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 3 and Roach Hollow Road21 |

| 30 | 30 | | in Catoosa County is dedicated as the Trooper William Black, Jr. Memorial Intersection.22 |

| 31 | 31 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and23 |

| 32 | 32 | | directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Trooper William Black, Jr.24 |
