55 Honoring the life of Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., and dedicating an intersection in

77 his memory; and for other purposes.2
88 WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put3
99 their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the4
1010 freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and5
1111 WHEREAS, Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., was a standout football player for Lanier6
1212 High School, where he led the Poets to a state championship; and7
1313 WHEREAS, he went on to study aeronautical engineering at Auburn University, where he8
1414 played basketball and football; and9
1515 WHEREAS, Trooper Black served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the10
1616 United States Army Reserves and graduated among the first class of troopers in Georgia,11
1717 with a badge number of 8; and12

2020 WHEREAS, while patrolling on Georgia Highway 41 near Ringgold, Georgia, Trooper

2222 Black's life was tragically cut short in the line of duty when he was shot during a traffic stop;14

2424 WHEREAS, Trooper Black embodied the spirit of service and willingness to find meaning16
2525 in something greater than himself, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable17
2626 and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his18
2727 memory.19
2828 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL20
2929 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 3 and Roach Hollow Road21
3030 in Catoosa County is dedicated as the Trooper William Black, Jr. Memorial Intersection.22
3131 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and23
3232 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Trooper William Black, Jr.24
3333 Memorial Intersection.25
3434 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26
3535 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the family of27
3636 Trooper William Frederick Black, Jr., and to the Department of Transportation.28
