88 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
99 with the passing of Ms. Catherine Ann Smith on February 25, 2025; and3
1010 WHEREAS, Ms. Catherine Ann Smith was born on May 29, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, a4
1111 beloved daughter of Dr. Warren L. Smith and Ann Schwartz Smith; and5
1212 WHEREAS, she learned the art of political organizing from her mother, who turned their6
1313 basement into a call center for the Democratic Party; and7
1414 WHEREAS, Ms. Catherine Ann Smith shared her knowledge with thousands of budding8
1515 activists and organizers in both Michigan and Georgia, dedicating countless hours, energy,9
1616 and resources to improving her community through the Democratic Party and progressive10
1717 causes; and11
1818 WHEREAS, she was a person of intelligence, passion, caring spirit, generosity, and was full12
1919 of laughter and wit; by the example she made of her life, she made the world a better place13

2323 WHEREAS, Ms. Catherine Ann Smith will long be remembered for her love of her chosen

2525 family and friends, and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her; and16
2626 WHEREAS, Ms. Catherine Ann Smith embodied the spirit of service and was always willing17
2727 to find meaning in something greater than herself, making it is abundantly fitting and proper18
2828 that this remarkable and distinguished American is recognized upon a life well lived.19
2929 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body20
3030 join in honoring the life and memory of Ms. Catherine Ann Smith and express their deepest21
3131 and most sincere regret at her passing.22
3232 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed23
3333 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Ms.24
