| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, the City of Thomasville is named for General Jett Thomas, who distinguished5 |

| 12 | 12 | | himself as a hero of the War of 1812 and is credited with constructing the first building at the6 |

| 13 | 13 | | University of Georgia; and7 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Henry Ossian Flipper, the first Black graduate of the United States8 |

| 15 | 15 | | Military Academy at West Point, was born into slavery in the City of Thomasville; and9 |

| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy traveled to the City of Thomasville to10 |

| 17 | 17 | | stay on a local plantation after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963; and11 |

| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, General Lloyd Austin, former United States Secretary of Defense, is a12 |

| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, the City of Thomasville remains a destination of choice for people from across16 |

| 27 | 27 | | dining, shopping, and cultural experiences; and18 |

| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, the City of Thomasville is known as "The Rose City" and hosts the annual Rose19 |

| 30 | 30 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21 |
