66 Recognizing and commending the Georgia Center for Civic Engagement and ENGAGE:

88 Youth in Government, which sponsors the Georgia Youth Assembly among other programs2
99 that cultivate youth civic engagement; and for other purposes.3
1010 WHEREAS, ENGAGE: Youth in Government is a Career Technical Student Organization4
1111 that supports high school students in the government and public administration cluster and5
1212 JROTC in Georgia; and6
1313 WHEREAS, ENGAGE: Youth in Government has a purpose to equip future civic leaders7
1414 with the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to excel in government and serve the8
1515 public good; and9
1616 WHEREAS, there are more than 275 JROTC units in Georgia serving thousands of students;10
1717 and11
1818 WHEREAS, the Georgia Youth Assembly, which was established in 1946, is a model state12
1919 legislature for high school students in which students serve as legislators, justices, attorney,13
2020 members of the media, and lobbyists; and14

2323 WHEREAS, participants in the Youth Assembly may run for the offices of Youth Governor,

2525 Lt. Governor, and Speaker of the House; and16
2626 WHEREAS, this year, the Youth Assembly celebrates its 81st anniversary and over 10517
2727 years of excellence and tradition in serving Georgia's students; and18
2828 WHEREAS, the 81st Youth Assembly is made up of many bright and eager young leaders,19
2929 including Youth Governor Laura Caswell, of Cartersville; Lieutenant Governor Savannah20
3030 Viktora, of Adairsville High School; Speaker of the House Austin Gay, of North Oconee21
3131 County High School; Speaker Pro Tem Maria Baxter, of Oconee County High School; and22
3232 others; and23
3333 WHEREAS, the Youth Assembly allows students to experience firsthand the excitement and24
3434 importance behind the legislative process and better understand the complexity of the25
3535 lawmaking process in this state.26
3636 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
3737 commend the Georgia Center for Civic Engagement and ENGAGE: Youth in Government28
3838 for its work in promoting civic engagement and for sponsoring the Georgia Youth Assembly29
3939 for 81 years of teaching Georgia's future leaders the legislative and state government process.30
4040 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31
4141 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Center32
4242 for Civic Engagement.33
