11 | 11 | | the creation of the OneGeorgia Authority being signed into law on April 21, 2000; and5 |

12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, the OneGeorgia Authority represents a strong partnership between the executive6 |

13 | 13 | | and legislative branches of state government as well as between state and local leaders7 |

15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, the OneGeorgia Authority promotes economic security for Georgians through9 |

16 | 16 | | the development and retention of employment opportunities in rural areas across Georgia;10 |

24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, the OneGeorgia Authority is a highly-flexible program that works directly with15 |

25 | 25 | | local governments and authorities to enhance economic opportunities for economic vitality16 |

26 | 26 | | within rural Georgia; and17 |

27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, the OneGeorgia Authority has invested over $778 million into rural18 |

28 | 28 | | communities in Georgia since its inception in 2000; and19 |

29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, the OneGeorgia Authority has leveraged over $21 billion in private investment20 |

30 | 30 | | and over $816 million in community investment; and21 |

31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, through the awarding of 872 awards, the OneGeorgia Authority has spurred the22 |

32 | 32 | | creation of over 65,000 new direct jobs by companies locating or expanding operations in23 |

33 | 33 | | Georgia and facilitated the construction of over 2,500 new housing units; and24 |

34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, the efforts of the OneGeorgia Authority have contributed to Georgia having25 |

35 | 35 | | been cited by Area Development Magazine as the No. 1 state to conduct business in for 1126 |
---|
36 | 36 | | straight years.27 |

37 | 37 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28 |

38 | 38 | | commend the OneGeorgia Authority for its significant impact on the lives of rural Georgians29 |

39 | 39 | | as well as on Georgia's economic growth and success.30 |
