| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, the Howard University Alumni Club was established over 60 years ago and6 |

| 12 | 12 | | since then has gone above and beyond to carry out their beloved alma mater's motto of "truth7 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and service"; and8 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, the Howard University Alumni Club has worked tirelessly to raise hundreds of9 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | thousands of dollars to award scholarships to well-deserving students in the metropolitan area10 |

| 16 | 16 | | so that they may have the opportunity to attend Howard University; and11 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, for more than 30 years, the Howard University Alumni Club has conducted a12 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | one of a kind, four day bus trips to Howard University exposing hundreds of Georgia high13 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school students to the magic of the "Mecca"; many of these students have gone on to enroll14 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in Howard University and returned to Georgia to become servant leaders; and15 |

| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta plays a significant role in18 |

| 27 | 27 | | recruiting students for Howard University by participating in college fairs throughout the19 |

| 28 | 28 | | metropolitan area; and20 |

| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, distinguished alumnus of Howard University include several Georgians and21 |

| 30 | 30 | | civil rights leaders, such as Ambassador Andrew Young and Hank Thomas, one of the22 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | original Freedom Riders and founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating23 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Committee; and 24 |

| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Atlanta Mayors Andrew Young, Shirley Franklin, and Kasim Reed are Howard25 |

| 34 | 34 | | University alumni; and 26 |

| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to honor the outstanding accomplishments27 |

| 36 | 36 | | of this extraordinary organization.28 |

| 37 | 37 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 |

| 38 | 38 | | recognize and commend the contributions of the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta.30 |

| 39 | 39 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 |
