66 Honoring the life and memory of Marvin Gary Simmons; and for other purposes.

88 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
99 with the passing of Marvin Gary Simmons on December 22, 2024; and3
1010 WHEREAS, Marvin Gary Simmons was born on December 19, 1950, in LaFayette, Georgia,4
1111 a beloved son of Marshall C. and Evie Denson Simmons; and5
1212 WHEREAS, during his distinguished career in law enforcement, he served as part of the6
1313 Floyd County Police Department, Rockmart Police Department, and Polk County Police7
1414 Department, retiring from the Polk County Sheriff's Department as a captain after 44 years8
1515 of exemplary service; and9
1616 WHEREAS, he further served as a veteran of the United States National Guard, honorably10
1717 and courageously protecting this nation's freedom and liberty as well as ensuring the11
1818 well-being of his fellow citizens; and12

2121 WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Marvin Gary Simmons was an active member

2323 of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church; and14
2424 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation15
2525 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he16
2626 made this world a better place in which to live; and17
2727 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Marvin Gary Simmons will long be18
2828 remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who19
2929 had the great fortune of knowing him.20
3030 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21
3131 join in honoring the life and memory of Marvin Gary Simmons and express their deepest and22
3232 most sincere regret at his passing.23
3333 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed24
3434 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of25
3535 Marvin Gary Simmons.26
