25 LC 112 2794 Senate Resolution 98 By: Senators Jones II of the 22nd, Mallow of the 2nd, Kemp of the 38th, Parent of the 44th, Wicks of the 34th and others A RESOLUTION Commending the Paine College women's golf team; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, from 2023 to 2024, the Paine College women's golf team has earned multiple2 national-level tournament victories, including the Division II Women in Golf National3 Championship, the Stitch Invitational, the Johnson and Wales Match, the Snead State4 Invitational, and the Paine College Fall Dual Invitational Match; and5 WHEREAS, the team demonstrated exceptional resilience during the NCCAA6 Championship, tying for second place and ultimately securing a third-place finish after a7 scorecard playoff, while team members Ashley Michel and Helena Rios earned8 All-American honors—the first-ever female All-Americans in Paine College golf history;9 and10 WHEREAS, this outstanding performance exemplifies the visionary and transformative11 leadership of Head Coach Andre Lacey II, an Augusta native, proud Paine College alumnus,12 and the only Black PGA Professional in Augusta since 2016; and13 WHEREAS, his commitment to service, player development, and community outreach has14 garnered recognition from respected institutions such as the Lucy C. Laney Museum of Black15 S. R. 98 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2794 History, where his memorabilia was featured to honor the legacy of Black caddies and 16 professionals in Augusta's golf history; and17 WHEREAS, the team's performance has elevated the standing of HBCUs in collegiate golf,18 broadened the sport's representation, and inspired young athletes by illustrating the19 opportunities that golf can offer in athletics, education, and future careers; and20 WHEREAS, as this magnificent team has earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence21 by performing with courage and precision, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23 commend the Paine College women's golf team upon its many outstanding victories as well24 as extend sincere best wishes for future success.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed26 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Paine College27 women's golf team.28 S.
