4747 SECTION 1. The legislature recognizes that historically, the State has underfunded the department of Hawaiian home lands. The legislature also recognizes that last year the State took a step in the right direction by appropriating a record high amount of funding for the department. The legislature believes that in order to reduce the number of names on the waitlist for Hawaiian home lands leases, the State should continue its increased levels of funding for the department. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate $75,000,000 for department of Hawaiian home lands infrastructure projects. SECTION 2. The sum of $75,000,000, or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to finance the infrastructure projects of the department of Hawaiian home lands, is hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii for fiscal year 2022-2023. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of Hawaiian home lands for the purposes of this Act. SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2022.
