4343 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

4747 SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to create a sports gambling task force to examine the economic feasibility of implementing sports gaming in Hawaii. SECTION 2. (a) There is established a sports gambling task force to examine and make recommendations on the economic feasibility of implementing legalized sports gambling in Hawaii. (b) The sports gambling task force shall consist of the following members: (1) The director of commerce and consumer affairs, or the director's designee, who shall serve as the chairperson of the task force; (2) The director of business, economic development, and tourism, or the director's designee; (3) The attorney general, or the attorney general's designee; (4) The chief information officer, or the chief information officer's designee; (5) The president and chief executive officer of the Hawaii tourism authority, or the president and chief executive officer's designee; (6) An attorney in private practice with knowledge of sports gambling law, to be invited by the governor to participate; and (7) An economist in private practice with knowledge of the economic impacts of sports gambling, to be invited by the governor to participate. (c) The chair of the task force may invite other interested parties to join the task force. (d) The legislative reference bureau shall assist the task force with its reports to the legislature and prepare any proposed legislation. (e) The task force shall submit a report on the status of its progress, including its findings and recommendations, and any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular sessions of 2022 and 2023. (f) The task force shall be dissolved on June 30, 2023. SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2021. INTRODUCED BY: _____________________________
