NO.   148     THIRTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2022         STATE OF HAWAII                              SENATE RESOLUTION     requesting the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation to create a plan for the KaŪ Hospital to incorporate modern computed tomography equipment by July 1, 2024.

SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation to create a plan for the KaŪ Hospital to incorporate modern computed tomography equipment by July 1, 2024.

 

 

      WHEREAS, Kaū Hospital was built by the State in 1971 and is the only hospital in the Kaū District in Southern Hawaii Island, an area approximately the size of Oahu; and        WHEREAS, in 1997 when Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) was formed, Kaū Hospital became one of HHSC's facilities; and        WHEREAS, in 2001, Kaū Hospital achieved critical access hospital status, a federal designation given to small rural hospitals that provide essential emergency and acute services in remote areas to assist them with the financial challenges associated with their size and isolation; and        WHEREAS, the district of Kaū is considered a medically underserved area; and        WHEREAS, Kaū Hospital is the only hospital in the district that provides x-ray services; now, therefore,        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2022, that HHSC is requested to create a plan for the Kaū Hospital to incorporate modern computed tomography equipment by July 1, 2024; and        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the plan to incorporate modern computed tomography equipment is requested to include:        (1)  A list of appropriate tomography equipment to be purchased and installed;        (2)  The estimated total cost of purchase and installation; and        (3)  The estimated timetable for purchase and installation of the equipment; and        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that HHSC is requested to submit a report of the plan to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2023; and        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chair of the Board of Directors of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
