3535 DESIGNATING the waianae moku kupuna council as AN advisory Resource to The Elected Members of the Legislature of the State of Hawaii representing the waianae moku community.

41- WHEREAS, from time immemorial, kupuna have held respected and revered positions within Hawaii's households, families, and communities; and WHEREAS, kupuna today play an essential role in advising on appropriate actions that enable smooth and efficient relationships among members of households, families, businesses, and the community; and WHEREAS, the Waianae Moku community recently formed the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council comprised of kupuna who are sixty years of age or older and are long-time residents of Westside Oahu and Hawaiian cultural practitioners who possess historical and cultural knowledge about the Waianae Moku community; and WHEREAS, it is of great significance to the Waianae Moku community to have the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council be able to meet with elected officials representing the Waianae Moku community on a regular basis to provide, in the spirit of aloha and with humility, input on various issues that are of importance to the Waianae Moku community; and WHEREAS, formal recognition of the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council as an advisory resource to elected members of the Legislature of the State of Hawaii who represent the Waianae Moku community is imperative to enable the Council to share its wisdom and advice on matters of importance to the Waianae Moku community; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2022, that the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council is designated by the Legislature of the State of Hawaii as an advisory resource to its elected members representing the Waianae Moku community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that elected members of the Legislature of the State of Hawaii representing the Waianae Moku community are requested to meet with the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council on a regular basis to receive input on various issues that are of importance to the Waianae Moku community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Waianae Moku Kupuna Council.
